Discovering More About Your Local Retail Owner
Meet Joseph Malbrough, the accomplished, yet humble retail owner of The UPS Store located at 2690 Cobb Parkway, Smyrna, Ga.
Born and raised in Beaumont, Texas, Joseph was adventurous from day one with an eye for giving back to his community. After accepting his first "real job" with Motorola in Atlanta where he developed his communications and business skills, Joseph achieved one of his lifelong goals when he landed a position with his local Chamber of Commerce. Joseph truly believes strongly in serving his community.
After 12 years of perfecting his fundraising skills with the Chamber of Commerce, Joseph turned his eye to another personal goal; owning his own business. Inheriting his entrepreneurial drive from his father, a steel factory worker who ran a shoeshining business on the side, Joseph found the perfect opportunity to acquire his local The UPS Store in 2004.

The Surprise Factor
As a retail owner of The UPS Store, Joseph quickly learned and was surprised "how people gravitate to the store for their small business needs." He looks at this awesome responsibility to always be a resource to them. He has even developed a motto for his team: "Be inclusive. Look at the needs of the customer. Treat them with respect. We are like a family."
The Importance of Giving Back
What motivates Joseph? "Giving back to the community and really being involved," he says. Today he serves as a board member for the Smyrna Board of Business Association where he onboards and mentors new businesses and fundraises for high school scholarships. Joseph's dedication to the community was recently recognized by the Cobb Chamber of Commerce, awarding his The UPS Store as one of the Top 30 Small Businesses of 2021.

Family is Everything
Joseph made The UPS Store a family affair while raising his sons who have worked alongside him for many years. Following in his footsteps, he's watched them pay it forward and make positive impacts in their communities. His oldest son, Evan, founded the non-profit Georgia Youth Poll Worker Project and wants to become a Civil Rights attorney. His youngest son Jared is a Junior at Kennesaw State University and studying Mechanical Engineering.
When not working at the store or making a charitable impact in his community, Joseph enjoys "downtime" with his wife of 26 years, Cara. They both love attending all types of festivals, from art, to music, to outdoor food events. As self-professed foodies who enjoy restaurants all across town and any events that feature Southern cuisine, they also focus on living a healthy lifestyle, recently running the Peachtree Road Race.
