Education First

Maya was raised in eastern Kentucky as the youngest sibling of a tight-knit family. Maya earned a finance degree at the University of Louisville, and an MBA shortly thereafter. She always had a strong interest in the legal system, and decided to attend law school. One of her earliest jobs was working in Louisville's Metro Public Defender's Office as a criminal defense attorney. Over the years she also worked for a large private law firm, and even practiced family law on her own. One fateful day a friend introduced her to someone who owned a The UPS Store and the entrepreneurial side of her was intrigued with The UPS Store as a small business venture.

An Exciting Career Pivot

Maya's strong belief that "everything will work out the way it's supposed to" led her to meeting an acquaintance who owned a The UPS Store. She and her husband Matt, a fellow attorney, were intrigued. Their entrepreneurial spirit kicked into high gear and they were thrilled to buy their local The UPS Store in 2017.

A Strong Team

Maya gives credit to her outstanding team for developing relationships with customers, including one who recently returned from vacation and dropped a souvenir hat off at the store for a favorite employee. "I'm a firm believer in employee growth and training," Maya says.

Community Role Model

Despite a busy schedule Maya always works in time to give back to her community. Her store proudly supports charitable donations for the Toys for Tots Literacy Program. Outside of the store, Maya is personally involved in the community as an advocate for several causes that support the legal and humanitarian rights of women and children.

Work-Life Balance

With a career in full bloom as a local retail store owner, a part time lawyer, real estate investor and a community pillar, this modern-day super woman is also a busy mom of four kids. With the kid's school, music lessons, sports practices and traveling with her husband, Maya is always on the move.

Maya's love of travel was sparked at an early age with trips to India, Singapore, Italy and Russia. Before starting college Maya and her brother went to Egypt on a memorable five week backbacking trip. Recently she has journeyed to Clearwater, Fl to visit family, to the exotic Canary Islands off of the coast of Spain, and to Turks and Caicos Islands, which holds a soft spot in her heart as this is where her and Matt were married.

Together Matt and Maya enjoy working out at Orangetheory Fitness and attending concerts such as the Grateful Dead, Phish, and Kentucky's own rock band, My Morning Jacket. Her eclectic musical tastes also includes a dash of bluegrass, sprinkled in with Top 40 pop tunes and hip-hop.

Next time you are in Maya's The UPS Store, make sure to say hello and ask her what concert she's heading to next!
