Discovering More About Your Local Retail Owner
Say hello to Matthew Wood, the dedicated, accomplished and friendly retail owner of The UPS Store. He is currently the proud owner of two stores, located in Louisville and Georgetown, KY.
Matthew was raised in Kentucky on his family's horse farm where he grew up riding, showing horses and competing. At one time he even thought he wanted to raise horses as a career, but his mother once gave him sage advice, "Don't make your hobby your job." He is still passionate about horses today and he has several pleasure Morgan horses that he takes trail riding.
A Family Affair
So how does a horse connoisseur pivot to become a business entrepreur? When Matthew was a senior at Georgetown College, his entrepreneur mentors (his aunt and uncle) convinced him to acquire his first The UPS Store in 2004. His uncle strongly believed in Matthew and helped finance his first store. Matthew's passion for graphic design, printing and great customer service was the trifecta for building a budding career as a local retail owner. In 2013, Matthew acquired his second The UPS Store and his focus is on growing and servicing "quality stores."
In a bit of sweet irony, instead of going into the horse business, part of his The UPS Store team consists of his brother, a cousin, an uncle who does his books, and even his mom and dad who occassionly run errands for his stores.

An Eye for Design
With a background passion for graphic and architectural design, it is no surprise that Matthew oversaw the building of his The UPS Store and his personal home (a modern Tudor style), from the ground up. In fact, he is putting the finishing touches on his new house right now. While most people find the building process stressful, Matthew relishes overseeing all of the details, and confessed he'd love to build another house as he thoroughly loved the process.
Making A Difference in the Community
Matthew has a passion to make a difference in his community. Through his business, he is proud to be a sponsor of local fundraisers and sports affiliations. His store is also one of the top donation collectors for the Toys for Tots Literacy Program. In his personal life, he is on the Board of Directors of AVOL Kentucky, an organization whose mission is to educate and end HIV.

How does this busy retail owner unwind? He keeps active and on the move. Whether cycling with friends, or riding horses, he can also be found skiing at his favorite resorts. Lastly Matthew is an avid traveler and enjoys the chill vibes of San Diego, riding horses in South Dakota and exploring international travel in Europe, South American and Bali. When asked where his favorite trip to date was, he replies with a smile, "hiking glaciers in Patagonia."
For someone who has such a full and busy life, when visiting his store you will notice his foscused attention on his customers and his warm smile. When you see him next, say hello and ask him where his latest trip was to.
